How to find a decent girlfriend?

Okay, I'm a 23 year old male and I never had a girlfriend before. Pathetic...I know. Anyways I find it real difficult to find the right girl. (I'm super picky) Throughout my childhood I was overweight and got bullied and targeted constantly and had very few friends and had a hard time trusting anyone. As I got older I lost much of my weight (80lbs.) and became a bit more confident around other people. Still finding a girlfriend is still a major challenge for me. For one I don't know where to look for women who have the same interests as me. Such interests as traveling, sightseeing and other outdoorsy stuff and also a girl who's very caring, friendly, family oriented and smart, someone who I can relate to. But also how to approach them when I do find them. I always tend to over think the situation and scramble my words turning it into an awkward situation. I'm a decent looking guy, i dress well and very educated. Can someone please give me some pointers? Thanks!
